The way of looking at individual fellow-citizens leads to common feeling of pain and pleasure and brings about cohesion and unity. Totalitarian govts hide under this framework of unity to compel dissenters to conform to the thinking of the party representing the state. Where as, the signification of unity borders on unanimity on the part of citizens regarding what is to be considered social good or social evil in the state. Disunity prevails where there is lack of common feeling on certain things like values: moral, social, aesthetic and so on in the state.
