The way the so-called ‘5-northern governors’ have been junketing about on an incomprehensible mission the past couple of weeks makes one wonder if they have put their States on ‘auto-pilot’ and are thus able to embark on their wasteful frolic. Public governance, particularly when you are charged with presiding over the affairs of a State, is serious business. The team of Sule Lamido (Jigawa State), Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger) seem to think otherwise. The excruciating poverty, absence of infrastructure and millions of hopeless youths which beset the States governed by these characters seem to be immaterial or of no consequence. Worse still are the characters they deem fit to lay their complaints to - whatever they may think these are. With the sole exception of visits to disturb the peace of two of the few statesmen we have in the country, former President Shehu Shagari and his then Vice, Alex Ekwueme’s, the travelling governors have hobnobbed with ex-military dictators, and fascists. Apparently these guys totally discountenance the will of the people and still delude themselves into thinking that when they ‘report’ Nigerians to expired coupists, they will scare the populace. Governors Lamido, Wamakko, Nyako, Kwakwanso and Aliyu – guys, try and for once sit in your States and govern!
