The weather folks are certainly quick to tweet dire warnings of black ice, but where was my heads-up yesterday about beige ice? When I went out to get our paper, I came to learn that our sidewalk was not just glistening with an innocent morning rain. Nope, from side to side, corner to corner, nothing but treacherous beige ice. So both feet shot straight out from under me, and even with my opened umbrella slowing my descent, the fall couldn’t have lasted more than an eighth of a second. It’s probably a tribute to my athleticism that I maneuvered myself to land on what was then my good elbow. Next Sunday we will start reading the paper online.
