The weather was perfect for beginner kayaking and paddle boarding. The down wind run was inevitable for our little campers and our Counselors and Ranger did a great job of rounding them up and bringing them back for another run down wind! While some kids were paddling the other picked up the seine nets and started collecting samples of fish shrimp & crabs. They put them in the pools so all could play with those poor aquatic creatures. After lunch it was time for sand castles at the beach. Again today another near mutiny occurred when nearly half the kids insisted on staying in Little Bay for more seining and paddle boards. Our crack team of officers recognized that outdoor fun would continue to be had by all and mutiny was again averted for the second day in a row! By popular demand I did a reading of the Lobstick Prince a Whooping Crane Story as the kids cooled off, signed the Annual Capt. Chuck Naiser Camp Paddle, and collected their awards before the parents arrived. What a great camp all the way around! Thanks to Capt Jay Tarkington and the TAMUCC Center for Coastal Studies and the adventure education experience.. Thanks to The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge for their curriculum and use of their cool scientific equipment. Thanks to Ranger Janelle and Goose Island State Park for the exciting outdoor projects up there. Special thanks to our Councilors Myra Passons, Kadee Davis, and Melissa Shatto. Your expertise in balancing these little adventurers made my job this session an absolute joy. Thanks also to our Camp Ranger, Michael Canterbury, the human Swiss army knife, always ready for any job. Huge thanks to my assistant Yvette White who makes sure every thing and everybody are at the right place at the right time and always makes my job a complete joy, and to Rebecca Butler who is also ready for any job and has been keeping the Skimmer in top shape since joining the team. And of course we all owe our thanks to our Camp Director, Amanda Blackner. Thanks for sharing your dream. Her exciting camp curriculum, her tireless networking, and plain hard work has made this project such a success for the campers, parents and Rockport Adventure Camp staff alike. We do it all again on the 23rd of June, see you there! Capt. Tommy Moore
