The week ending September 10th News – * The Australian release date for the Xbox One has finally been confirmed for November 22nd. If you preorder the console you’ll get a Day One edition along with a free download copy of FIFA 14. The PS4 will launch one week later on November 29th. * Sony has announced a new version of the Vita hardware, one that is slimmer, cheaper and aimed at a more casual market. The biggest changes are the addition of a 1gb internal hard drive and a lower quality screen. Sony has also announced Vita TV, a device that allows you to play Vita games off a memory card on a tv as it’s main feature. Both of these announcements are Japan specific as of writing, but expect at least the new Vita model to come to Australia. * Sony is also heavily rumoured to be working on a 3D enabled, head mounted display for the PS4. The device would be similar to the Oculus Rift, allowing for an even deeper level of immersion for gamers. Sony has actually released 3 head mounted displays previously that can be used for gaming, but none that are designed from the ground up with gaming in mind. * Nintendo has announced that they will be launching a paid Pokemon Bank allowing hardcore players to store thousands of Pokemon online for the upcoming X and Y games. Also announced were the original 3 starters Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur getting a Mega Evolution allowing them to evolve past Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur. * A Kickstarter for a new gaming device called the Cross Plane has launched. The Cross Plane will be a device similar to the Wii U’s Gamepad, which will allow the screen of a 360, PS3 or PC to be broadcast onto the HD Tablet Screen of the Cross Plane controller allowing TV free gaming. * EA Games have claimed that they are working on six to eight new IPS which are yet to be announced. Did you know – * Have you ever wondered how the NES Light Gun worked without any type of sensor bar? When you pull the trigger on the gun, the tv will flash pure black for one frame and then for the next frame keep everything black except whatever targets are on the screen which flash white. The gun registers whether it’s pointed at a black or white object during that frame change to register a hit. If there are multiple targets on the screen, each target will flash white for a different number of frames, allowing the gun to recognise which target is being shot at.
