The whole Arab Spring was a big fraud. There was a tiny minority - TopicsExpress

The whole Arab Spring was a big fraud. There was a tiny minority of democracy activists in each country looking for a secular state but the absolute majority wanted Sharia-based state if not a full blown Khilafa. We fooled ourself into thinking that we could control the Islamists but in reality they were the ones that took advantage of the secular activists and exploited their naivety to reach power. The secular activists are deluded. They are a bunch of young, Western-inspired idealists who live in cloud cuckoo land, and were led by leftwing wannabe intellectuals whose only experience in politics is to preach the virtues of Marx in smoke-filled cafes while being spied on by the mukhabarat. Apart from Tunisia where there was a high-enough number of secular and educated middle class elements (thanks to the strict secular policies of Bourgebba and Ben Ali), everywhere else the Islamists are dominant. After 3 years of political upheaval, the choice is between secular dictators and Islamic dictators. I choose the former because at least they allow you a margin of personal freedom. The Islamists on the other hand want to impose their lifestyle on the whole of society and create the worst dictatorship possible: religious dictatorship.
