The whole CIA torture memo thing that came out today was a real disappointment to me. The CIA of my generation was the CIA of the Reagan Era, and the Reagan Era CIA was about anything but torture. Quite the opposite. They, to me, are the original Coke Brothers, responsible for more than a few productive and thoughtful late-night term paper sessions, and some frenzied though complete essays that made up my minor in philosophy. I would go so far as to say that without the CIA, I might have not graduated from college. So to read about this scandal today was heartbreaking.
