The whole privilege argument implicitly raises abstract - TopicsExpress

The whole privilege argument implicitly raises abstract statistical likelihoods to a position of greater importance than concrete realities. It also seems intimately connected to the misbegotten collectivist dogma of social justice. An injustice is not less because it happens to a member of a privileged group; a white man murdered is no less dead simply because white males as a group are statistically less likely to be murder victims, and the crime is no less serious. Until we reach the point where we see victims of injustice as unique individuals rather than demographics, and we see discrete, concrete acts of injustice and not probabilities based on arbitrary group attributes, were not going to have true justice. Privilege theory does not advance us a single step toward that goal.
