The whole world responds, with China, after intense criticism by its own citizens conducted through the countrys social media, increasing its contribution to 1.6 million dollars from the 100,000 USD it first announced. The US is the biggest contributor and is launching what, according to one report, its biggest humanitarian effort ever. While I am sure some are uncomfortable with this and the overall idea of yielding some control to the international community in dealing with this disaster, the priority is saving lives and making sure people do not starve or get sick. Everything else is subordinate to that.
