The willie wagtail is a passerine bird native to Australia, New - TopicsExpress

The willie wagtail is a passerine bird native to Australia, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, the Bismarck Archipelago, and eastern Indonesia. It is a common and familiar bird throughout much of its range, living in most habitats apart from thick forest. Measuring 19.0–21.5 cm (7½–8½ in) in length, the willie wagtail is contrastingly coloured with almost entirely black upperparts and white underparts; the male and female have similar plumage. Three subspecies are recognised: one from central and southern Australia, another from northern Australia, and the third from New Guinea and islands in its vicinity. The willie wagtail is insectivorous and spends much time chasing prey in open habitat. Its name is derived from its habit of wagging its tail horizontally when foraging on the ground. Aggressive and territorial, the willie wagtail will often harass much larger birds such as the laughing kookaburra and wedge-tailed eagle. It has responded well to human alteration of the landscape and is a common sight in urban lawns, parks, and gardens. It was widely featured in aboriginal folklore around the country as either a bringer of bad news or a stealer of secrets. @AusGov Australian Gov News @sagovau sa.gov.au Australian Politics @aus_politics Australian Media @aus_media Queensland Australia @Queensland Queensland Reds @Reds_Rugby Qld Gov Media @qldgovmedia QLD Gov Mythbusters @QLD_Mythbusters Government 2.0 QLD @gov2qld Consult Queensland @consultqld Northern Territory @DarNT NERP Northern Hub @NERPNorthern City of Sydney @cityofsydney Sydney @sydney_sider Sydney Australia @krimminator City of Sydney RSL @cityofsydneyRSL Queensland Australia @Queensland #QueenslandDay #qpsmedia #celebratingQLD TQ @tourismqld Queensland Health @qldhealthnews Qld SES @QldSES Queensland Online @QLDOnline New South Wales Tips @NSWTips NSW RFS @NSWRFS NSW Police @nswpolice UNSW Australia @UNSW NSW Blues @CricketNSWBlues Arts Queensland @artsqueensland Biosecurity Qld @BiosecurityQld Business.qld.gov.au @Businessqldgov Consult Queensland @consultqld DAFF Media @DAFFmedia Digital Economy Qld @DigEconQld EHP Queensland @QldEHP ElectricalSafetyQLD @ESOQLD Energy Queensland @EnergyQld Fair Trading Qld @fairtradingqld Fisheries Queensland @fisheriesQLD JusticeQLD @justiceQLD Land Queensland @LandQueensland Mining Safety Alerts @MiningAlertsQLD OSRQueensland @OSRQueensland QAGOMA @QAGOMA TransLink SEQ @TransLinkSEQ Queensland DETE @QLDDETE Qld Agriculture @QldAgriculture Queensland Food @QueenslandFood Qld Fire & Emergency @QldFES qld_oic @qld_oic QLD GOV Grads @qldgovgrads Qld State Budget @QldStateBudget Queensland State Budget Campbell Newman @theqldpremier QLD GOV Grads @qldgovgrads Queensland Health @qldhealthnews State Library of Qld @slqld TransLink SEQ @TransLinkSEQ Queensland Science @qldscience Reef Facts @ReefFacts SLQ learn @SLQlearn Transport Main Roads @TMRQld SLQ learn @SLQlearn Transport Main Roads @TMRQld State Library of Qld @slqld SLQ Edge @SLQedge Brisbane City SES @SESBrisbane Queensland Australia @Queensland Qld State Archives @QSArchives QPS Media Unit @QPSmedia Queensland Museum @qldmuseum #solomonislands Solomon Islands @SoSolomons #SolomonIslands Indonesia @Indonesia Twitter Indonesia @twitter_id LFC Indonesia @OfficialLFC_ID Swift Indonesia @SwiftIndonesia Indonesia Trends @trendinaliaID Anonymous Indonesia @AnonNewsIndo
