The wind is rattling through my cluttered head stirring up the dried leaves of windy days past. I’m noticing quite a bit of reminiscing going on in FB land so apparently it’s in the air. A gentle reminder to all…no matter how accurate we think our memory is - what I remember about an event and what you remember about an event will rarely match detail for detail. I offer these examples minus tags to protect the embarrassed… That magic testosterone fueled moment when you helped the lead singer/hero of a local band light a dumpster on fire and launch it down Sunset Blvd??? It may have been the crowning achievement of your 20s, but only mildly amusing to the singer who likely didn’t remember your blaze of glory the next day (or that he still had your dad’s antique lighter in his pocket). A red-hot ember landing on my favorite shoe was truly not that magical. That romantic snog with your favorite guitar player from a British punk band that you chalked up to your newly bleached hair??? The excited mutterings that he’d had a crush on you for ages??? You thought that was the start of a rock-star wife life, I thought I’d have to smother you with a pillow… And how did he feel about it two nights later when the Germs took the stage, and he was mortified to realize you were not the Lorna of his dreams but instead merely a lovely young FIT student? We had to repaint the hallway when you violently removed his images from the walls taking paint and plaster down with them. I doubt he noticed when you failed to buy any of his subsequent recordings and views your “legendary” act of vengeance (pouring the contents of a beer on him from the Starwood balcony) as anything more than a drink spilled by an inebriated young punker. It’s all in the perspective folks...
