The woman I loved, or would have loved if vested with the opportunity to do so, was in this fearful situation a roaring lioness. ‘I will protect us all,’ she reached down the top of her vest. When her hand came out she was holding a crucifix, ‘with this!’ she said defiantly. ‘So what does it do then?’ I asked, ‘does it explode when you throw it?’ ‘The power of the Lord will be our salvation! I will hold it aloft and it will light our way.’ ‘Agent Probing has a torch!’ I reminded her, ‘by the look of it I would say it has at least an eighty Watt bulb.’ ‘You know what I mean!’
