The wonder of a citrus tree: Each year there have been different quantities of grapefruit picked from my tree. For instqnce: After the 2nd year the grapefruit tree was producing large bitter Oranges. Then two years later the fruits we sweet and still deep orange in color. By 2006, the fruit was now turning a dark pink inside and the outer layer was now yellow to pink. It produced 900 good fruits. By 2008, the tree would produce over 2000 edible fruits, where as the following year the tree only produced 14 fruits. The years 2010 to 2014, the average picked was 500 and now here it is 2015 - the first picking has yielded 800 plus, leaving maybe another 800 on the tree. I read on the internet that the Grapefruit season is from October to June. So, I am not in a big hurry to finish picking the fruit, beside the fact that my ladder is not tall enough and if it was, I would have to pick when the wife was not home ! On the humor side: I have been trying to figure out a way of protecting myself from falling off the ladder while picking the fruits. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Parachute 2. A trapeze net 3. A thick layer of foam 4. Fill the area with bed mattresss so that if the fruit fell it would not bruise. 5. Purchase a heavy duty drop cloth, suspend it above the ground about 3 feet, then climb into the tree to reach the fruits. (this may not work because the tree is full of thorns and the limbs probably would not support me). Then I began to think of some really strange ways to pick the fruit from the tree: Such as: 1. A vacuum cleaner 2. A lift bucket truck 3. A light bulb changing pole 4. Suggestions ?
