The word holiday comes from two words combined: Holy and Day These days are intended to remember important events in the past, to remind of us of certain values because we (as a people) knew at an earlier time how important they were to retain and preserve them. Each slight move our nation makes away from remembrance and towards valuing the time-off more, is a move away from the ideas that made America more than just a place, but a great idea. Examples: Presidents Day vice Lincoln and Washingtons birthdays. No one objects to lumping Carter and Nixon or others in with the formers? What will your grand kids get from Presidents Day in a hundred years? The use of Mondays to create 3-day weekends vice retaining the date on a calendar which set it apart for another reason. Randomly adding holidays by decree to pander and appease groups at the expense of the rest of you. Make no mistake, you all will pay for this in some way. So please start caring about our Holidays as they were intended, or youre set to pay much higher prices in the future.
