The words of a mans mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. Proverbs 18:4 They say that men speak 7,000 words a day but women speak 13,000 more than men. That is a lot! I assure you I will not be saying that many in this post. :) But as high a number as 20,000 words might be it doesnt even come close to the full measure of our words. The verse above describes the words of a mans mouth being deep waters which means theres no end in sight. We all have something that we want to say that we believe can be profitable to others--for example: providing our thoughts and opinions. Such are the deep waters. Whether the noise is small or great, wise words never run dry. In contrast, sometimes we speak just for the sake of speaking. Think: your words may be plentiful, but are they wise? When we gain wisdom, the quality of our words changes. They become a living well of water. They are words that refresh, cleanse, and uplift. As a woman, I cant say I speak 20,000 words but I do have to keep careful watch of my deep waters of words. I need to make sure theyre not at a standstill but instead a fountain of wisdom to water those around me. These are the times that Im so thankful for the Holy Spirit. He speaks to my heart and reminds me where I need to turn to receive wisdom, not humanly wisdom but divine wisdom from scripture. The Bible is our ever-flowing source of wisdom so that our words wont be merely sounds but truths that give life, refresh, and flow freely. I pray that I use my words wisely and that they might be refreshing waters to those around me, just like the brook refreshes all who are thirsty. Lana Gera | Executive Administrator
