The world is not enough... , Mozart score, mixed technique, acryliс on canvas, 180х150cm, 71x59 in Тhe Kate Moss Collection, London. The portrait of this girl – “British fashion icon” as they call her – I made it to order. Hence – strict selection and fixed criteria: this picture had to be positive, optimistic, trouble-free and still bearing resemblance. Especially since it was meant to be a gift to Kate Moss’ wedding, her own portrait. What a Procrustean bed for imagination, but - ok, I’ve made it. Et voilà - the bride is crazy about it! She puts the picture behind her back, right at the head of the festival table so that each of 300 poor guests could admire her portrait for all the three days. (The wedding was held in Moss’ country estate near Cambridge, she sold the rights for shooting to Vogue for over 3 million dollars – isn’t that something, huh?) As a result, she’s got herself shot with Elton John with her huge portrait on the background, and Banksy desperately tried to find out how the painting had been made. But what really matters for me - besides being just glad that my work has got a positive feedback, this feeling is normal for any artist – the idea itself is important: this work will become the first one in a new series of paintings, named Pleiade, i.e. constellation. Then there will be no more criteria pressure, this is where one can let oneself go creating new archetypes for familiar images! Pop diva Madonna will become the Sitting Bull, the legendary Indian chief adorned with feathers; gentle and rounded Elton John will turn into a tough centurion, McCartney ... David Bowie ... but hush… but hush… !) lauren.ru
