The world-renowned S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile system was available to foreign buyers at the OboronExpo 2014 in Moscow, Friday. Manufacturer Almaz-Antei are believed to be in talks with China and India among other states in regards to setting up service centres for the advanced weaponry. The S-400 is the enhanced version of the S-300 surface-to-air missile series. The system is capable of launching 40N6, 48N6 and 9M96 long-distance missiles capable of knocking down planes from a 400 km (248 mile) range at an altitude of up to 30 km (19 miles). Its long-and medium-range system is capable of launching up to 72 missiles and engaging up to 36 targets simultaneously, from aircrafts and unmanned aerial vehicles to cruise missiles. Each S-400 battalion is composed of four to eight launchers, a multifunction radar, detection and targeting systems, anti-aircraft missile systems and a mobile command post. The SP85TE2 launchers can carry up to four missile tubes, while the 92N6E fire control and target tracking radar can track 300 targets simultaneously within a distance of 600 km (372 miles).
