The world renowned broadcaster and military based quiz show host Alan Partridge once said he evolved but didn’t revolve. One can only assume Porsche took note of these wise words when briefing the design team for the latest 981 version of the Cayman. Evolution not revolution. Although less than 10 years old the Cayman has built up a loyal band of supporters and received a number of accolades including the coveted Playboy Magazine Car of the Year award 2006. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the outgoing 987 design so what could Porsche do to give the Cayman more cutting edge styling without making it unrecognisable? The answer, as ever with Porsche, was to completely re-design the car whilst still making it familiar enough that presenters such as Partridge and Clarkson could crack the all too familiar joke asking which was the new model? Actually it’s just Clarkson because Alan’s alter ego Steve Coogan is a noted car enthusiast. We happened to have one of each in stock, both in red so it seemed rude not to take a couple of pictures.
