The writers of the TV cartoon series “Family Guy” just wanted - TopicsExpress

The writers of the TV cartoon series “Family Guy” just wanted to freshen up the show after more than a decade on the air. So last weekend, they killed off one of the main characters, Brian the dog. Fans were so outraged that they lit up the Internet with protests. One Alabama super-fan even launched a petition on Change.org to bring Brian back, and within hours, it had over 1500 signatures. I know a lot of pundits will tut-tut about Americans getting all worked up over frivolous things, when there are issues of great importance that go ignored. But in a way, it’s sort of a strength. It shows that despite the best efforts of those with power in the media, the people still have minds of their own. They’re hard to predict or control. They don’t like it when other people in distant places just decide to take away something they like, and at that point, they’ll make their outrage heard. I guess what I’m saying is that if you thought Americans revolted when they took away classic Coke or Brian the dog, just wait until next year, when 70 million or so get told they’re losing their employer-paid health insurance policies.
