The year 2015 has arrived with Springfield and Western Massachusetts at a crucial crossroads. A new Massachusetts governor, Charlie Baker, has taken office. He will work with a Legislature whose officers include Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, a Democrat from Amherst. Several new businesses are either locating in Springfield or considering it. Opportunity exists, but so do challenges in job creation, health care and education, to name a few.
