The year in review As we all look ahead with hopes and dreams for a great 2015, I trust we will have more good memories than bad but before I personally set out I want to reflect on the year that was. As always I have much to be thankful for, first and foremost, family; my wife Donna Whalen, and my daughter Krista Whalen and my son Terry James Whalen, I am nothing and nowhere without them. Thank you so much. We also have three incredible Chinese Shar Pei’s puppies that keep us on our toes and every bit equal members of our household. Sadly we had to say goodbye to one of our babies, Bruin, on Oct 31st, he was perfect and I still haven’t gotten over it. I don’t think Maggie, Bella or Remi have either. 2014 was a time for change and growth, February was the digital release of our 5th CD and April 2nd, the official release of Two Steps Forward, a CD we recorded with acclaimed engineer and producer Paul Milner at Shell Lane Studio, it was definitely a step forward being able to work with Paul, and being able to count him as a friend and partner in crime. The first big change for The Terry Whalen Band was the addition of Jock Downs on lead guitar, and to now have someone who is equally incredible as a human being and musician standing beside me is unreal, the bar just got raised big time. We also welcomed Dre Pineau to the band on drums, another character guy with the heartbeat and drumming of a lion. He fits with TWB like a glove as the saying goes. Sadly we said goodbye to Colby Jardine who has been a fixture with us since the beginning. Colby has made his way to the entrepreneurial world and we wish him great success. We had a spectacular year bringing our tasty stew of dirty blues to as many people as possible, making a whole lot of new friends, too many to list here but I want to make a list of some of the highlights: Festivals: Pembroke Blues Festival – Thanks to Darcy Graham and Kirk Redden Salmon Festival in Campbellton, NB Miramichi Folksong Festival – Susan Butler Dutch Mason Blues Festival – David DeWolfe and Ian McLaws Larlee Creek Hullabaloo – Heidi Baird KV Jazz and Blues Festival – Jeff Liberty Party at the Tupper = Digby NS – Andrew N Steeves Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival – Brent Staeben and Joel LeBlanc Venues / Individuals : The Boulevard Pub, Miramichi,NB – Chris Savage Riverside Entertainment Center Miramichi,NB – Chris Ward The Well Pub, Nelson, NB - Brasserie 1026 Bar and Grill – Campbellton, NB – Rodney Harquail Casino NB , Moncton, NB Roger’s Cable – Miramichi Songwriter’s – Matt Maher The Dining Room, Campbellton, NB – Rick Hutchinson Whalen’s Barn guests – Kendra Gale, Arlo Gilliam, Dan Doiron and Tomato/Tomato Millbank Music – Tim Irving Lakeview Inn and Suites - Tim OBrien 95.9 sun-fm – Paddy Quinn, Dan, Kate, Darcy and the whole gang 93.5 CHMR-fm St. Johns NL Terry Parsons 107.9 fm CFTA in Amherst NS - Cal’s Closet - Cal Lewis There are to many musicians I would like to mention that we were so fortunate to be able to share the stage with, thanks to you all. So heres to a great 2015, hope to see you all soon. Terry
