The young girl me Once I was a young girl who dreamed how simple life would be I would do things different I would youll see I would find out everything I needed to know The future would be mine It would be so How silly was I A novice in life Sure certainty could never be There would be strife As life brought me down to beg on my knees And trammelled those hopes Life wasnt a breeze The anvil of fate Would hammer my soul Make me concede And take its toll Those bright hopes I once had diminished in size Just to survive Would be a prize Im tougher now Reality prevailed No sweet young certainties So freely regaled But solid and real My achievements wont fade Resolute and tempered Like steel in a blade Yet would I long To again be so free To know no doubt That once was me By Mary Cecil
