Their Crisis - Our Solutions Today was the first North East Anarchist conference, but more significantly it opened up to some fellow travellers who think in significantly similar ways to us. A crisis has faced working class politics for some time now, decades even. From a position where workers and the labour movement could be said to have large numbers in all communities who were pulling in the same direction, with political education and working class interests at least paid attention to. TO the position today where the labour movement has lost members, activists, and supporters, where the Labour party openly betrays working class interests, and Trade Unions are not producing the dynamic activists they once where. In the face of this, the orthodox Communist left (SP,CP,SWP etc) has similarly floundered and have had their own crisis and are not providing the alternative. SO it is left to a new movement, and it could be said to have had its serious political birth today in Middlesbrough - and we hope these prophetic words have resonance in years to come. What we saw today was the working class anarchist and independent gathering of opposition to the social disaster facing us. There was a great deal of significant agreement and minor disagreement, we have committed to action and have a strategic plan for the foreseeable future. I met new friends today, and I hope to meet more in action together. We have a world to win, the old right, far right, orthodox communist and left ideas have left us defenceless in a crisis situation. Lets us all continue to be the solution together.
