Then Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand and put it on Josephs hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put the gold necklace around his neck. He had him ride in his second chariot; and they proclaimed before him, Bow the knee! And he set him over all the land of Egypt. Moreover, Pharaoh said to Joseph, Though I am Pharaoh, yet without your permission no one shall raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.… [Genesis 41:42-44]. Oh, that is powerful right there; AUTHORITY! A signet ring was also called a seal. It was used much like a signature on a document today. The ring of kings would carry the highest authority in a land and empowered subordinates to ACT FOR the king. Therefore, whatever Joseph did or said using the king’s seal, it was as if Pharaoh himself had given the authoritative order or commanded it. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of Gods own possession, to the praise of His glory. [Ephesians 1:13, 14] The devil had the audacity to say, “It is written…” but the difference between the devil and us is that we have the seal – the Holy Ghost; that is why Jesus also said it is written and it came with authority. The Holy Ghost backed up whatever He spoke giving His words authority and the devil could not stand it but leave Him alone. Jesus said, “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” [John 6:63] – When we speak, it is like Jesus Himself speaking because we have the seal – the Holy Ghost, backing up our words, giving them life; just like in the beginning where the bible says, “The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” [Genesis 1:2, 3]. The Holy Ghost is the power of God who waits on us to speak His word that He may back it up, create, and give it life. We are not just to speak anything we can think of; Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God [1 Peter 4:11]. That is authority given to us as sons. Authority is: The power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. No one could do anything in Egypt apart from Joseph’s command because all authority had been given to him by Pharaoh, and so have we authority as sons here on earth that was given to us by Jesus. We will also decree a thing, and it will be established for us, and light will shine on our ways [Job 22:28]. It shall be established with the backing of the Holy Ghost.
