Then someone from the crowd said, “Teacher, tell my brother to share his inheritance with me!” Jesus said, “Hey guy, who made me the judge and jury over your affairs?” Then he said to all of them, “Watch out! Stay on guard against every kind of greed! A person’s life is about more than just having a pile of stuff!” He told them a story: “Once upon a time there was a certain rich guy. His fields yielded an amazing crop, both in terms of quantity and quality. So he debated with himself, saying things like, ‘What the heck am I going to do? I don’t have enough storage for all these crops!’ So he concluded, ‘Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll tear down my barns and I’ll build even bigger ones. Then I’ll store all my grain and all my other stuff in the new barns. Then I’ll be able to say to myself, “Man, oh man! You’ll never have to work again a day in your life! So relax! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ But God said to him, ‘You idiot! You’ll be dead before morning!
