Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israels - TopicsExpress

Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israels army withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Exodus 14:20 Israel was between a rock and a hard place - well, actually they were between an army and a wet place, but you know what I mean. God had instructed them to encamp along the Red Sea after they had just left Egypt. They had not long been settled in when they looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them. As they say Egypts army approaching they looked over their shoulder and saw nothing but water - the Red Sea. There was nowhere to go! What were they to do?! Thats when God gave some very surprising instructions to Moses, Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water. This staff was carried by Moses to represent the power of God going with the Israelites (Ex.4). This was Gods power present with them. So Moses raised Gods power and stretched out his hand and the waters parted. Then something else amazing happened. The angel of God and ALSO the pillar of cloud moved from in front of them to behind them. Many commentators believe that the angel of God was the preincarnate Christ. The pillar of cloud was the very presence of the Almighty that was to lead the Israelites out of bondage and would one day dwell in the Holy of Holies. So the power of God (the rod) was with Moses in front of the Israelites. The presence of God (the cloud) along with the angel of God (the preincarnate Christ) were behind the Israelites as the armies of Egypt were pressing in. Now - think about all of that. The Israelites were surrounded by the Father (cloud), the Son (angel of God) and the Holy Spirit (rod - power of God with man). They were completely enveloped by the Almighty. They were being held in the arms of the Creator. Even in the midst of difficulty, they were in the safest place they could be. Do you find yourself between an army and a wet place today. If so, please be aware, God is for you not against you and if you are walking with Him, He will envelope you with His powerful hands of protection and He will get you through the tough spots.
