Thenparankundram . Jain cave temple ( Umai Andavar ) . Madurai . It is believed this rock cut cave temple was excavated during 8 th century AD, this was used as a monastery for the Jain saints who resided on the hill ( you can see the stone bed , but its a very tough climb ) The inscription mentions ( as per the scholars ) the present stone carvings of Nataraja with consort Sivakami, Murugan with consorts & Arthanarieswarar inside the garbhagriha were of 13th century AD ,under the Pandyan King Sundara Pandiyan ,a saiva saint converted this monastry into Sundara Pandiyan Eswarar temple , after the emperor .
