Theology Thursday by Debbie Vacek January 8, 2015 I John 2:10 Whoever loves his brother, lives in light. Am I the only one still having trouble saying “good-bye” to Christmas? Yes, there are still wreaths on the windows, shiny balls on the tree and even the little village is still aglow on the table. Yes, there are still little hand-prints on the back glass door and on the microwave and frig doors, but something is missing…those precious grandchildren voices. Their whines, their laughter, their hugs, their requests for more “cowbell” ice cream, their pleas for just one more cookie or the constant questions, “Is there more apple pie? Do you have fingernail polish remover? Where are the band aids, the hair dryer, the football, and yet, above all the drama, the laughter, the questions, there reigns an abiding love. Before each shared Holiday meal, we all stop and give a blessing for and to the One whom we celebrate this Christmas. These prayers of gratitude define who we are—a family of believers, followers of Christ. Twice we read the Christmas story from Luke. Tears flood my eyes as I ponder these moments in my heart. Why? Because it is all about LOVE. It is the love upon which you can thrive; it is the LOVE of God. The beloved disciple John stresses, “My dear children, love one another.” In I John 2:10 he says, “Whoever loves his brother, lives in light.” Let us live in that light and thrive in love in 2015. I want to savor that love in my heart all year long!
