There always has to be a tiny minority who calls for Australia Day to be moved, a politicians republic declared and the national flag shredded. That they can do so in freedom and without any attempt to suppress their opinions is testament to the sound institutions which were brought to this land in 1788. Indeed but for the media, it is doubtful that much would be heard of these views which so few Australians are seriously interested in. 2014 is no different with Greens leader Christine Milne calling for Australia Day to be moved to the date a (politicians) republic is declared. Senator Milne has in fact reiterated a longstanding Green policy to change the date from January 26. We would like to see that change, Senator Milne told reporters in Hobart. There would an opportunity to do that if Australia was to become a republic.
