There are 1,022 people in Montezuma, IN. Last night, however, we added 25 to that when comedians from 4 different states joined the Tyler Smith benefit to compete in a comedy contest. We had enough people that we easily outnumbered the chairs in the room and those attending the event were never all inside because of space restrictions. Hope the entire event was successful for Eric Hites and Angie Atterbury Hites and Tylers family. Thanks to the band Rhetorik for the use of the equipment and the support of the comedy event after their set. To Eric and Adam Stout for help judging. To Tanya D. Lutes for all of the pictures. Congratulations to Christopher Hightower for a very good set that won him the competition money and trophy and to runner-up Doug Wiley, who outpointed everyone else on a lineup that was so close we had 8 people all score a 4 or better on all 3 ballots and a lineup where everyone averaged a 3 or better. Its a lot of fun compiling a lineup of comedians where everyone hasnt already heard everyones sets. Rick Omundson paid me a great compliment saying he didnt know anyone else who could bring 20 comedians to a show and we not lose any of the crowd. It went a little over two hours and the locals hung with us til the end. One guy only didnt make it to the announcement of the winners, but only because he was CARRIED OFF after passing out in front of the building. Montezuma had been partying, some of them, since 4 PM. This is becoming one of my favorite little Invasion destinations and Im happy to be bringing a national act September 5 for Comedy in Crawfordsville Presents The Montezuma Invasion II. Thanks to Chris, Doug, Rick, and the other comedians who performed last night: Quinn Marcotte, Kurt Allen, Austin Frields, Autumn Rainwater, Chip Hall, Bob Nugent, Luis Agosto Fuentes, Tim Loveable Wells, Alex Brown, Kris Tanner, Diesel Reeves, Mahlon Nevitt, Mitchell Potts, Logan Cook, Aaron Nadell, Aaron Evans, and Kurt Messick, Thanks for contributing to a good cause. I hope we can do another contest this fall. Theres a nice little crowd in that town that appreciates people who travel to entertain them and they deserve to keep getting good shows.
