There are 870 million undernourished people in the world today. That means one in eight people do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Hunger and malnutrition are in fact the number one risk to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Children are the most visible victims of malnutrition. Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year. Harmful economic systems are the principal cause of poverty and hunger, so in short blame the politicians. Hunger Notes believes that the principal underlying cause of poverty and hunger is the ordinary operation of the economic and political systems in the world. The most at risk group are children under the age of 5 and this is the group that needs most help as the damage that is caused by under nourishment is irreversible.
