There are a couple of big-ish air travel stories in the news right now, so lets go over the basics so you know whats going on. 1) In the U.S., the 9/11 Security Fee that pays for things like the TSA & scanners has been a flat $2.50 per segment with a max charge of $10 per ticket since it was created. As of July 21st, that will now increase to $5.60 per flight segment with no cap, and there are additional changes that redefine how things are calculated so that if you have any lengthy layovers, you may pay more. If you are planning a trip this year, purchase your tickets now, before the new fees to into effect. 2) Due to heightened security, you may be asked to turn on your devices when going through security on your way back to the U.S. If the device doesnt turn on, you may have to leave it behind. Make sure everythings charged up before your return trip so you can turn it on if asked. Good to know about these things in advance!
