There are a few ways for tumor growth to occur within cells. The way cells work is that they have a limit to their growth capacity. There are limits to cell growth. There is a gene called a tumor suppressor gene. The gene itself prevents tumors from growing. Its the brakes to uncontrollable cell growth. When cells grow into tumors, they are utilizing the principles of natural selection and out competing the cells around them. In essence, they begin to take over. When a chemical enhances or contributes to tumor growth, that chemical must feed the tumor more so than any other cell or contribute toward its growth or has the capability of altering the DNA in some way. When we look for chemical safety, especially in regards to tumor growth, we need to acknowledge the mechanisms. If we cant find a mechanism that makes sense, there is little evidence to support that a chemical contributes to cancer growth within the body.
