“There are a lot of positive things about going to work while being treated for depression, such as the social interaction there and the accomplishment of being able to do things. If you stop, it can make the depression worse or even interfere with treatment.” Dr. Raymond Lam, the medical director of UBC Hospital’s Mood Disorders Centre and a professor of psychiatry, is conducting research on how people with clinical depression — the most prevalent form of mental illness — can be helped to function while remaining at work.
