There are a lot of things going in behind the scenes here that arent posted on this page. It comes down to a matter of time really, because there are only so many hours in a day. I do however want to take a minute to share a story that happened today. I have a few minutes..... and well, who doesnt love a happy ending? Yesterday, I was looking through my email at urgent pleas that were sent to us. I came across a senior Chihuahua mix named Chewy that after 10 years of devoted love and companionship, her owner surrendered her to a kill shelter. She was understandably traumatized, shaking and shut down. Because of this, the shelter didnt feel that she was suitable to go to the adoption floor. Sadly, Chewy would not be offered for adoption. As most of you know, surrendering a dog to a kill shelter is a death sentence. Unlike strays that are given a required number of days to give an owner time to come forward and claim them, with surrenders, the owner is known and no longer wants the dog. This puts them at the top of the list often times, especially if the shelter is full. It just so happens that recently, I was contacted by someone who wanted to adopt a senior Chi that was in our rescue, but he was already adopted. I thought of them when I saw her plea and decided it was worth a shot. I immediately sent Chewys photo and information to them. They fell in love with her photo and today, the last day Chewy had to find a home, became the first day of her new life ;) Her new family promptly went to the shelter earlier and made her a part of their family! They even brought their senior male dog who is about her size to make sure it was a match. Chewy is on her way home, with a new BFF and family, just in time time for Christmas! Chewy is one VERY lucky dog!
