There are a lot of videos of Ledward Kaapana playing casually between sessions of music workshops, in someones yard, on the beach, in the living room, in the garage, .... I love that kind of performance because it is what I experienced often in Honolulu and on Saipan. The Marianas, especially Guam, were of course under Spanish influence for many years, and it is still around us everywhere, in the language, in peoples names, in religion, and street and place names. With that excuse, lets have Ledward Kaapana —accompanied by ethnomusicologist Bob Brozman— play Spanish Eyes for us. But then he suddenly segues to another part of the Mediterranean with a bit of Never on Sunday (Greece). But still, its nice. Ledward is playing a resonator ukulele (there are also resonator guitars) which has a small amplifier cone(s) in the body. These amplifier cones are basically like the old gramophone horns/cones of the late 1800s (think: the old RCA Victor dog Nipper listening to His Masters Voice).
