There are all kinds of customer interaction scenarios that occur in a bookshop but one of our favourite ones is when customers abandon the etiquette of framing book titles in full sentences. It is quite thrilling when someone marches up to the front counter and demands of you ‘Who moved my cheese?’ or ‘What colour is my parachute?’ or ‘Where is the green sheep?’ or ‘Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf!?’ It is as though they have abandoned any extraneous words in order to get straight to the heart of what is bothering them. One wants to help these deeply puzzled souls and feels like the answers should be simple but unfortunately they are rarely so. (I’m pretty afraid of her.)
