There are currently 6 Administrators of this group. The groups creator is long gone, having eft facebook years ago. Currently any member can add someone. This was to permit folks to add shipmates. Requests from anyone not invited by a member are approved or denied by admin. We have been inundated of late by requests. It takes a little time and legwork to make sure the request is from an actual person and if there is some legitimate connection / interest in the Midway. I was not aware of a vote until this morning and have been giving it some thought. For what it is worth: 1. This group is ours, not mine or anyone elses since the groups founder is gone. I will abide by any decision made as a result of a vote. 2. We have grown and that is awesome. I would like to see that continue. I check in often to see to pictures and the stories. To continue growth I would suggest that we increase the number of Admin. We can establish a clear set of guidelines for Admin as to admission of members, removal of members and removal of posts. Im thinking 1 admin for each 100 members. I would suggest that all admin be folks who have actually served aboard her either as ships company members of a squadron. 3. I believe the group should remain public as we want to reach as many shipmates as we can. Current Members should still be permitted to invite and add members. I would suggest that anyone with an interest be permitted to join. While I have never banned anyone, other admin have. Some of those banned have been crew members. I have reviewed complaints and once in 5 years have removed a post. So I believe it is Admins responsibility to police member activity for egregious behavior. I would suggest we have few actual problems on here. So in summary. I will abide by any vote but I would suggest that the group remain as it is and that we increase the number of admin initially to 12 from the current 6 with a discussion of a set of guidelines for admission and posting which will be by design very loose. Anyone with any affiliation with the Lady should be admitted (especially sailors who have served aboard sister ships, escorts, etc as well as member of the armed forces of our allies). This would also include family members and even friends. They all have an interest. There should be a degree of decorum maintained as we still represent our Command, our Navy and our Country. But that decorum should be maintained by the group not by admin wielding the authority to ban. Sea stories and those of liberty ports are part of who we are and should be welcome on here. Think of that before inviting family members aboard or posting to a forum others can read. This has never been a secret or closed group and I would prefer that it not become one.
