There are days when an unexpected whim becomes a joyous - TopicsExpress

There are days when an unexpected whim becomes a joyous discovery... Out running errands today and, as the hours quickly flew by, my Mom & I discovered we were both feeling a bit peckish and decided we should stop somewhere for lunch. As always the question of where to go came up and it was decided we should try somewhere new. Already near home, we chose to stick close by, even though the new offerings Downtown are ever a temptation and on our list to try... Today however, a bright building of neon green with eye popping orange trim was to be our destination and we headed to 4429 Shasta Way - Wuta Joy Candy! Candy for lunch, you say? Now, dont be so quick to judge! ;) Walking inside the small shop we were immediately greeted with a warm hello and a colorful, contemporary, yet cozy, décor. We announced that it was our first visit and were given the tour of delicious offerings (it was like winning a Golden Ticket to Willy Wonkas!). Generous samples were handed out, specialty candy bites and homemade apple butter - yum! There we were picking out sweet treats to take with us and hadnt even glanced at the lunch menu yet! ;) Once our chocolate fix was satiated we decided to choose something more appropriate for lunch fare and each chose a sandwich from the menu; my Mom picked the Turkey Cranberry & I, the Shrimp Croissant, which each came with choice of bottled water or Coke. We settled at the single table with high stool chairs and admired the wall gallery of vibrant photography that begged to find a home on my own walls (awesome talent there!) Oh! I forgot to mention, when we purchased our candy and sandwiches, we noticed the mention of tamales and did order one chicken and one pork to-go! (go big or go home! lol) We waited about ten minutes for our sandwiches and the whole experience there was not a brief one, so I will say, if youre in a hurry or have a large order, to call ahead so it will be ready for you to pick up. Our visit was leisurely so we enjoyed every second. The sandwiches, when they were brought to our table were fantastic! The bread was fresh, homemade mustard, the shrimp were a nice size (no worries of tiny Bay Shrimp here), the turkey was moist; they were generous portions, a mouthful and messy as any lovely, wonderful, delicious sandwich should be! They both came with crisp, fresh dill pickles and potato chips (homemade maybe?) Meeting the owner, Joy, was an experience in itself - bubbly, welcoming and more than willing to share her ideas for the future which includes some exciting expansion plans which we look forward to watching happen. She also tickled our ears with upcoming menu items as they like to keep it new & fresh so the adventure itself is always going to be a little bit new and exciting! Great attitude, pride in what they create and sell, quality ingredients and, in my opinion, very reasonable prices for the generous quantity and quality you are getting! I am very sorry to say, that I did NOT have my camera with me this trip so I didnt get an opportunity to take photos of our luscious sandwiches, HOWEVER, since I would not dare to post a review without some kind of photo, I did take a picture of one of our to-go tamales (which I did take a nibble of because it was impossible to resist a hot, fresh tamale even though I am stuffed full already. Its delicious!!! If you dont like spicy at all though - ask for the chile verde on the side). Note the size of that tamale which I sat on a large, dinner plate - yes, its huge! Will we be returning? Definitely! Would we recommend it? 100% What else can I say but What a Joy!!! Thank you, Joy, for bringing your business to Klamath! =)
