There are days when you simply must embrace the suck. Denying - TopicsExpress

There are days when you simply must embrace the suck. Denying your emotions only pushes them further from you. The more distance you put between yourself and your emotional awareness the more you will inevitably suffer...youll become the victim. But listen to them and you can understand them, transform them and use them. From an evolutionary perspective, emotions are the agents of change and act as motivators to guide your actions. Every step you take is to either increase your pleasure or stop your pain. When I learned this principle I was able to quickly apply processes that allowed me to gain a great deal of access to emotional regulation. I was able to coach myself into response-ability and away from the effects of re activity. If I didnt like the way I felt, I simply changed my perspective until it felt more effective, productive...better. There were and still are times, when I may have to accept that despite my best efforts, life does not always wish to comply. This is when I must find fortitude from faith. On these days, no amount of intellectual acrobatics will successfully accomplish a more emotionally comfortable state. Im going to have to just feel it, even if Id rather not. Sometimes the only thing one can do is learn to become comfortable, with being uncomfortable. This is the time in between ~ the suck ~ its the time when you realize if you stand in the rain, youll get wet. Youll simply feel the appropriate feelings in accordance with the environment. This is the time in between being knocked down and getting back up. (Without acceptance there is no getting back up.) Its the time when you have to admit that it is simply painful to be on the receiving end of the contact and to absorb the impact. You know that after you get up, youll move on again. But some things still hurt...and some things leave a mark...an imprint; a ghost you carry with you. Still, such is life and we must learn to embrace the suck.
