There are few things better than a student remembering something you taught them. My first year teaching, 22 years old standing in front of 9th, 11th and 12th grade English students wondering how in the world I could successfully teach them something useful and impact their lives...And survive; with Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society as my guide, I knew Shakespeare wasnt for everyone nor Thoreau; and my enthusiasm for sonnets and rhyming couplets was not shared. Nonetheless, fast forward 15 years later, walking away from Walmart I hear Miss Harper! I forgot that was my name. From afar theres a woman running towards me, more than a decade since last seeing her. Carpe Diem, Miss Harper! Remember you told us to seize the day, to seize life? Yes, yes I did. She was so happy to see me as she introduced me to her children. What a wonderful moment.
