There are four different blood types that exist in the human race today. These blood types include type A, AB, O and B. AB positive blood is rare but special as it is a universal recipient of all blood types. This means that during emergency situations such as a need of a blood transfusion, a person with an AB positive blood type receives blood from a donor with type O, A, B or AB without any problems or complications. Blood type AB positive is more rare and exists within less than 4 percent of the population.Blood types are determined before birth as specific genes from both parents are fused to create one blood type. One gene is from the mother and one gene is from the father. The four blood types, A, B, O and AB make up the population, but the most common of them all is type O positive. People with type O positive blood make up nearly 40 percent of the population. People with blood type AB are universal plasma donors, whereas people with blood type AB positive make up around 4 percent of the population and are universal blood recipients. AB positive blood is compatible with other AB blood, so donating blood to only people with blood type AB works. People who have blood type AB positive are in luck and benefit the most in comparison to the other blood types, especially if they are in need of a blood transfusion as they are compatible with all blood types.Blood type AB positive and AB are rare and uncommon, make up a total of around 6 percent of the population, combined. People who have blood type AB positive benefit from having such a blood type as blood from any donor is readily available for them.
