There are good, biblical reasons to question whether patriarchy is any more an accurate and faithful representation of Scripture than feminism has been. It has been said that because the wifes vocation includes submission to her loving, protective, sacrificial, fortifying, nourishing, cherishing, faithful, intimate (and certainly safe) Head, her husband, that she herself has neither authority nor jurisdiction in the home, for her duty consists of subservience in all things. (See Eph 5:21-33.) For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. -- I Corinthians 7:4 to be master of any one, exercise authority over one to have full and entire authority over the body And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. -- Luke 22:25 [Authority here implies both a right of access--and a right of restraint. Authority is the power to say yes, or to say no. A power that requires a single option by compulson is not a real power, or a true authority, just as surely as it is generally a glory and grace to say yes.] [comments to follow]
