This time you wrote asking me to support AB 351, a bill which would make it statewide policy to refuse compliance with federal attempts to enforce “indefinite detention” under the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012. I agree with you, indefinitely detaining an individual without charge or trial violates the civil liberties that our founding fathers fought for and enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. For these reasons, and the ones you so thoughtfully articulated, I voted in support of AB 351 in the Assembly Appropriations Committee and on the Assembly floor. I am happy to report to you that the bill passed the Assembly and Senate. Due to individuals like us, the bill was signed into law by Governor Brown. I appreciate you sharing your support.
