There are just 40 days to go until the next presidential election. Who really is Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan? What are the impulses that drive his actions? A former American ambassador to Nigeria, Howard Jeter, during a CNN interview described Jonathan as a man of “uncommon loyalty.” Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also observed this quality in him. In 2009 when Yar’Adua’s health collapsed totally some political associates of Dr. Jonathan had different ideas on how he could corner power and become the substantive president. They felt that power comes to he who recognizes the right time to seize it and that no time could be more auspicious to strike than when President Yar’Adua was lying sick in a Saudi Arabian hospital. They tried to encourage Dr. Jonathan to maneuver his way into the presidency but he rejected these overtures vehemently. In the same way that he refused to take advantage of the misfortune of Alamieyeseigha, his former boss in Bayelsa state before he was finally impeached in December 2005, he would not move to unseat the ailing President. Such loyalty and integrity are truly rare qualities to be found in a Nigerian politician. . Jonathan has a gentle look and as Major-General Anthony Haladu Hananiya (Rtd.), a former Director General of the Road Safety Commission says “I believe he is a divine leader brought by God and there is no reason he should not be supported”. This belief in his divine mission is shared by many Nigerians. Rev. Fr. Mathew Kukah of the Catholic Church called his ascension to power “a monumental act of divine epiphany.” President Jonathan’s victory in 2011 reaffirms the unbreakable bond between North and South. Thank you for your unwavering faith and prayers for President Jonathan and our nation! We’re grateful you voted for President Jonathan in 2011.Dont forget. Were asking for your vote again on 14th of February 2015, in order to continue to enjoy the dividends of the transformation agenda of his administration. The People’s Democratic Party is the only party that has stability and ideology to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians. . No President, or any of President Jonathan predecessors, No one could have fully repaired all the damage he found in just four years. At no time in the history of this great country have we had a social media as active as it is now. Nigerians are speaking up and speaking out like never before. They are talking about their problems and their challenges. They are talking about their pains, their sorrows and their burdens. They are talking because they want a better life for themselves and their loved ones. They are talking because they know President Jonathan is listening. In spite of all the negativity that a certain myopic coalition have chosen to spew and disseminate on social media, President Jonathan and his team continue to listen so that they can make things better for the millions of Nigerians who voted him into power. President Jonathan will continue to listen to Nigerians because he believes that in the thousands of voices out there, there are brilliant, intelligent and intensely resourceful young men and women whose ideas and solutions can bring change and real transformation. The Transformation of Nigeria is a responsibility of every living Nigerian including those who have vowed never to see anything good in what this government does. Many of those who profess to seek progress for this country are just being mischievous in their plots. Some of them had an opportunity to drive change in this country yet allow over ambitious political aspirations overwhelm and becloud their thinking. Peaceful growth the only path: Nigerias diplomacy has displayed three major characteristics since President Jonathan took office as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in May 29, 2011.First, it is multidimensional diplomacy. There are four aspects to the countrys diplomacy: its relationships with major powers, neighbouring countries and developing nations and multilateral diplomacy. President Jonathan has been active in all these four areas. The second characteristic is that Nigeria since Jonathan took office has remain unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development, and President Jonathan has made this strategy quite clear through his speeches and conversation with foreign guests and international community on various occasions. The third characteristic is that Nigeria has more importance to its relationship with its neighbours. Nigerias diplomacy since Jonathan took office has been dynamic in the restoration of Nigerian lost glory in comity of nation. Nigeria under Jonathan administration our nation have entered an era whose theme is peace and development. There is a powerful mega-trend of peace, development, cooperation and win-win results. This is the trend of our time .Peaceful development is the only path to progress and prosperity. Nigeria has followed successfully this path since Jonathan took office in 2011.Well stick to this path. We urge Nigerians to have faith and continue to pray for President Jonathan and the nation as his administration most important interest is to maintain development momentum under the Transformation agenda. – Promoted by Augustine Chukwuma Obodo Conservatives Party Activist and Commentator on Ethnic Minority Affairs, Co-Founder /CEO the Nigerian presidency project in association with Department of Innovation and Development Strategy at the Nigerian Presidency Project 20 Granville Road Sidcup DA14 4BZ, Kent United Kingdom niiea.org
