There are loads of manual techniques out there generally with 3 letter acronyms or driven by Dr XXX proposing that their precise method is more effective or has a special rational. Often if they dont work then the technique is not to blame but the practitioner applying it or the person it is being applied to. There have been a few comparison studies, another one into LBP as I recall. The conclusion being that there is no real difference in outcome between techniques or the profession applying them. Our purpose was to compare the effectiveness of three manual therapy techniques: high velocity, low amplitude (HVLA), mobilization (Mob) and sustained natural apophyseal glide (SNAG) in patients with chronic neck pain (CNP) The results lead to the conclusion that there is no long-term difference between the application of HVLA, Mob and SNAG in pain, disability and cervical range of motion for patients with CNP
