There are many definitions for what is considered abnormal behavior. The text lists different definitions, stating it as deviation from the average or ideal, as a sense of personal discomfort, the inability to function effectively, and as a legal concept. I think the easiest definition of these are the first two, deviation from the average or deviation from the ideal - what society considers socially acceptable behavior. Anything that deviates from that is abnormal. Another definition of abnormal I found extremely interesting is abnormal behavior that causes a sense of discomfort. The sense of discomfort, however, is not caused to others around the individual, but discomfort to the individual themselves. But what causes one person happiness or comfort, may severely disturb another. Take, for example, a serial killer. It puts the lotion on its skin, anybody?
