There are many good things to be said for live performances; when there is a great connection between performers and audience, magic can happen. But you can also lose important things that I love: singing in tune, timing, and a loosening, even a breaking, of the connection between the band members. But, yeah, when you _do_ get a great live performance, its fantastic. Studio work can suffer when it doesnt have an audience - it can be flat or superfluous or lifeless. But. When the performers are really connected to each other - perhaps, in some sense, getting their performance energy from each other - you can get another kind of magic, a certain tightness that elevates the experience to the level of the profound. The sum is much larger than the pieces that make it up. This song is a great example of that studio vibe. The video gives you some idea why; the song itself is emotional and whole.
