There are many more tools to the path than insight/vipassana - TopicsExpress

There are many more tools to the path than insight/vipassana alone: one can achieve great degrees of peace through somatic mindfulness (body scans and yoga), metta, mindful dialgoue and relational practice, anapanasati (breath concentration), dharma contemplation and study, generosity & gratitude reflections to name a few of many. Yet some practitioners—and teachers, unfortunately—believe its worthwhile to stick dogmatically and single-mindedly with insight paths even when the results are psychologically detrimental, steering directly into destabilizing dissolution experiences, falling into spiritual abysses that require years of healing to recover from before any shred of insight is attained. This is why its important to learn all the tools listed above, never settle on one practice. Speaking as someone in their 30th year of practice, its been my experience that those who have many tools in their toolbox find lasting ease; those that rely on one tool are like the carpenter who only owns a hammer: nothing worthwhile gets built. theatlantic/health/archive/2014/06/the-dark-knight-of-the-souls/372766/
