There are many puppies who have their shots, yet still get parvo. - TopicsExpress

There are many puppies who have their shots, yet still get parvo. New owners, and breeders, please be careful where you take your puppy. You are truly playing Russian Roulette. For a Saint Bernard, my vet recommends that last set of shots at 20 weeks. Here is a quick look at why: Parvo is considered to be ubiquitous - it is potentially everywhere in the environment. The key is to minimize the amount of available virus and protect your dog through vaccination; activating the immune system to fight off the virus before it causes disease. Puppies younger than 16-18 weeks of age havent had all of their vaccinations yet, so they are more susceptible to parvovirus. Therefore special caution is advised for puppies; be mindful of the areas visited, vaccination status and age of dogs they come in contact with, and be extra vigilant about sanitation of hands, shoes, clothes, bowls, etc. for puppies (vetmedicine.about/od/dogdiseasesconditions/f/ParvoDisinfection.htm) PS. This is just for parvo. Parasites are another huge concern and are rapidly becoming almost epidemic in some areas. Again, please use caution with your pets. Thanks!
